Magazine Cover Swap
The magazine covers were created using InDesign, a software often used for designing magazines or other printed and digital publications. The designs show a working knowledge of graphic design as I was able to implement elements that are present in magazine covers and follow design principles. For example, the layout follows a hierarchy that is established by the font sizes. The variety in font sizes guides the reader to follow a specific order while scanning through the page. Additionally, for this project I decided to research current events that were happening in my local area, dedicating time to brainstorm different ideas for the copy of the magazine covers and the cover image. Additionally, I read an article from AIGA in which four art directors discuss how magazine covers have become political posters while looking for inspiration.
Whenever possible, I try to provide substantial feedback to others. In this case, the feedback received was to implement elements that helped the magazine look realistic, such as a barcode. I applied the feedback and added a barcode and issue date to the refined iterations of the magazine covers. During the creation of these designs, I followed the prompts that were given by the professor, and while refining the project, I remained within the same guidelines. This project followed the specifications needed to produce a professional and high-quality print.
